~ TIME WILL TELL ~

It’s another long weekend in SA – and that makes me happy.
Time to visit more markets, secondhand shops and maybe even an auction room  – and look for all things chippy, French and beautiful.  (I was going to say bright and beautiful – but I so DON’T do bright!) J
I love clocks, especially as you are able to decorate with them in so many different ways, be it outside, inside, grouped together, or standing alone.  Obviously for those of us that love re-cycling, old ones are more precious, and whether they are in working order or not – decorating and displaying these can be such fun.
Over the weeks I have found some of the most gorgeous clocks through other blogs, décor mags, online decorating sites or interior shops.  Interesting to see how people decorate with clocks.
I hope this inspires you to show off your time pieces in a unique and fun way.
Enjoy.
Right up my alley - old, chippy, "in your face".....

This outside display really appealed to me. If your house is not spacious enough to display such a large clock - think outside the box! :)

Ok! So this is HUGE! But on an enclosed courtyard or patio area - it's a work of art!

I love the fact that these owners have just left this clock leaning against the wall.

These most definitely make a statement all grouped together.

For those of you taking a break - enjoy, and to everyone else who won't be enjoying a long weekend, see you next week!

~ MARKETING ~

FLEAMARKET / CAR BOOT MARKET / JUNKYARD / DUMP / CHARITY STORES / THRIFT SHOPS
Wandering around any one of the above places, be it a market, shop or dump – is high on my list of the 10 best things I love to do with my time.  Make that the 5 best things! J
I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea visiting a dump, but trust me – once you see the bargains my friend in Sweden has found, or my niece in England – you’ll want to visit those dumps too!  (Unfortunately in Durban, the dump is not a place you want to visit in your spare time!) but in Harjom or Southampton – yes please!
Some of my most treasured possessions come from either charity stores in the UK, or the car boot market or flea markets right here at home.
I just recently visited a flea market which was held at Mariannhill Monastery – but unfortunately it was the smallest (and lamest) market I have ever been to, but I was fetching a vintage bottle crate from one of the stall holders – hence my trip.
HOWEVER! I was not altogether unhappy about being there – the Monastery and its grounds, cathedral, buildings and tea garden – is a must for everyone to visit in their spare time.
I got the most beautiful cards and pictures for a friend from the little “repository” shop at the monastery – for next to nothing.  Tayne also found a perfectly carved and polished cross in the shape of a “T” – the start to my collection of letters! For the meager sum of R30!
I could wax lyrical about the monastery – but this post is about markets! J and the flea market on their grounds is not something I am going elaborate on!
My dream would be to find a stack of these bistro / cafe chairs at a market!

An old construction sieve.

I have clay pots exactly like these - and they all came from the carboot market, unofrtunately they are now like hens teeth!

Celeste managed to find two vintage scales from charity stores in the UK, and I did see one for sale at the fleamarket on Saturday - but passed it by!

I wish my cutlery drawer was as neat - but a lot of these spoons and knives resemble the pieces I have picked up at markets in Durban as well as the UK.

Belinda (Sweden) found these old crates on their local online classified ad website called Blocket.

I love this slatted one with the handles which she also found on the same website!

Funky Junk Interiors is one of my favourite blogs - she re-uses, recycles, re-invents most of her fleamarket finds.

This is the tiny little bottle crate I bought off Gumtree and fetched from the Marianhill Monastery last Saturday.

These old books and candlestick holders were all bought from the car boot market over the years.

~ Book Worm ~

I don't know about you - but I'm addicted to decor magazines and books.  Every month I buy whatever decor mags I can get my hands on, new or second-hand.  Our local SPCA has a 2ndhand book sale once a month, and I do manage to find some good international ones there.  All secondhand magazines are R2 a pop!  That's a bargain!  I then re-cycle them when I'm done - but tend to hang on to most of them for far too long.
I love Amazon for secondhand books too - but more often than not, they won't post to South Africa .... so have to make do with the one or two sellers that will send.
I managed to buy some books today - most of them to do with Flea Market Style,  Junk Style and Shabby Finds.
Here are a few others I would like to get my hands on!!
