~~ ZINC ~~

Hope your week is going well, and for those of us in SA and the USofA - hope you enjoyed Mothers Day last Sunday too.
I had a shocking start to my weekend - I wrote off my car on Saturday morning, so Mothers Day and my 50th birthday felt like a right off too! I am now waiting for a settlement figure from the insurance brokers and am trying to organise a new car.
On a far happier note - what do you feel about zinc?
I love it in any shape, form, size, age or description.
Zinc baths in the “olden days” were a staple in most families, either to bath the babies, dogs, wash clothes, or simply for the kids to cool off on hot summer days. Zinc watering cans, zinc buckets - all from yesteryear! I am sure we all grew up with them, discarded them when we were tired of them, or they got a tad battered, but now long for them to be back in our lives.
Just recently zinc became very popular as vases, or to store kitchen utensils in, and the obvious choice of zinc for the home today would be anything vintage or unique.
There are a number of various items which I have placed on my wish list as far as zinc goes – and I am sure you will add a few too after seeing these pics.
Such a lovely idea.

I love this old bucket, especially as it's a vintage one and not re-produced one from China!

Couldn't get better than this!

Rusty, old watering cans all lined up making a statement! Cast your eyes upwards and you'll spot two spouts on either side of the window too!

Once again - used as potplant holders they really do look classy!

As far as I recall, this was an old urn that another blogger found at a junkyard.

I would most definitely have both of these candle lanterns! I truly adore them!

This chippy zinc locker, painted blue - fits this kitchen perfectly!

What I wouldn't do to have a couple of those old zinc cafe / bistro chairs for our patio!

Although this is a shiny, new zinc - I love the idea of this!

May be junk - but it's gorgeous!

This crockery holder is way up on my "To Have" list!

I know my friend Belinda, in Sweden, is going to love this setting! Couldn't get any better!

~ Recipe for the Day ~

~ Stoep Chatter ~

Do you have a patio / porch / verandah / stoep / courtyard?  Most of us in warm climates do as 90% of our times are spent outdoors, either entertaining or just appreciating the warm weather.  These become an extension of our homes, and as much as I would love to say, YES! I have one, and YES! We do – it is the size of a postage stamp and needs much more done to it!
My dream patio would have to have the following;
·         Reed covered ceiling
·         Rambling roses
·         Large cement urns filled with hydrangeas
·         Bistro / Café tables and chairs
·         Rustic bench
·         Dozens of faded linen cushions
·         Bare brick walls
·         Cement floors
·         A couple of cats
·         Family & Friends
And that my friends – would be simply ideal!
Enjoy the pics I found – they are simply beautiful!

SHUTTER-BUG

It’s been a long time since I have posted something – too many public holidays, days off……. Just a lot going on!
There have been so many ideas popping into my head about interior decorating, that I haven’t really known what to write about, but just today, I have found the one!!  Shutters / louvers – call them what you like – they seem to add a certain something to a person’s life!
I’m not quite sure if I would get it right trying to add one, two or three of these to my home, but the ideas that people have come up with have certainly opened my eyes to these simple additions.
My preference is most definitely for the chippy, old, junkyard finds – but the good, clean and neat ones also add that special charm to a home.
Enjoy the pics everyone!
